Is knowing your league important? I think if you want to be happy then knowing what girl is in your league is important.
First, money skews which type of woman is in your league. When I was younger I’d go to social events, etc, and you would see these beautiful women on the arms of some toady old guy. The toady old guy was rich and it changed the league of woman he could go out with, but the person should realize that money is the only motivation there.

Okay, this woman is out of my league and because I’m aware of this fact, I don’t really find her attractive because I know there’s ZERO chance of me ever convincing her to have sex with me. Once you’re aware of your league, you not only find the women in your league more attractive, but they’re also an attainable goal.
